Question about Cozumel

FH and I are going to be there for a day on a cruise and neither one of have ever been to Mexico before, we are currently deciding on a shore excursion for the day and I don't know if I should hang around Cozumel or take the ride to Cancun for the day. Which one should I see? If I stay in Cozumel are the beaches there pretty? What should I make sure I do/see there?

Re: Question about Cozumel

I would definitely hang out in Cozumel rather than Cancun!!!

The beaches are pretty... I would suggest renting a scooter or a jeep for the time you're there... it's definitely a fun place to be!!!

Re: Question about Cozumel

We just did this. The excursions we wanted were booked so we decided to hang around Cozumel. For us, it was very boring. The same shops that sell the same stuff street after street.

The excursion I wanted to do with something called BOB which is a semi scuba experience where they put this big bubble on your head and you go see the underwater life.

Another option is a trip to the beach at Playa Del Carmen which I heard was great for just relaxing.

Or you can swim with the dolphins.

What cruise are you taking?

Re: Question about Cozumel

Wow, thanks for the quick responses.
FH and I are going to be in Florida for two weeks and we are going to take a four night Royal Caribbean cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale while we are there, trying to mix it up a bit. It is Enchantment of the Seas, which stops in Key West and Cozumel. Stef, that bubble head thing sounds so cool, I will look into that. But, I'm not that big on the ocean and I am a scaredy cat when it comes to fish and such, I am completely enclosed in the thing right? No fish can touch me? FH has been dying to snorkel or scuba and I don't think I could handle either one of those, this sounds like something I could handle.

Re: Question about Cozumel

Cozumel is awesome for scuba diving!!!

You should definitely give snorkeling a try! The fish are beautiful! Once you get used to it, it can become relaxing.

I don't know if Cozumel has horseback riding in the beach, but I know Cancun does! That's fun!

Re: Question about Cozumel

I just went there for my honeymoon on a cruise too! We booked our excursion BEFORE the cruise based on a recommendation from a friend. We did the dolphin encounter - and in one word AMAZING. It was truly the highlight of our trip.

We were in a group of 6, and each person did 5 tricks with the dolphins. It was soooo much better than the one Carnival offered, where theirs was just being in the holding tank with the dolphins as they did their own tricks (and you could pet them too). But ours WE did the tricks with the dolphins in a HUGE tank. (Ours was a little more expensive but WELL WORTH IT!!).

It was at the national park near the port. It was a cab ride that lasted about 10 minutes (cabs are expensive there).

Good luck!!

Re: Question about Cozumel

The BOB thing just covers your face. Its sort of like snorkeling for scardy cats like me. So your face and hair is completely dry and in this housed unit...but the rest of your body is exposed.

Im really sorry I didnt do it b/c it looks like fun. Definitely book before you go if you can b/c they fill up fast!

They have different versions at different places. Some are just your head, others are fuller vechicles like this one:

Re: Question about Cozumel

On our honeymoon cruise we stopped in Cozumel. We didn't book any shore excursions. we hopped into a cab and had the driver take us to Mr. Sanchos. Its a really laid back beach club. They have a really nice bar and good food. Cheap too. And the water is amzing. Crystal clear.

Re: Question about Cozumel

Stef, I am about to book the excursion, it is the Helmet dive right? Not Snuba? I can't tell exactly what Snuba is from the description.
