Is this house rental to good to be true? UPDATE..I think its a scam..
I mean I understand its upstate where things are cheaper then the city..but $600 for 3 bedrooms? What do you girls think?
House for rent in New platz
EDITED: Here is the guys response to my email about why its so cheap...
Thanks for the email.the house is still available for you to rent,it was due to my transfer that makes me leave the house and also want to give it out for rent and looking for a responsible person that can take very good care of it as i am not after the money for the rent but want it to be clean at the time and the person that will rent it to take it as if it were its own. So for now, i am presently in Kansas now,i try to look for an agent that i can give the house keys and the documents before i left but could not see.i took the keys and the documents along with me,because i dont want my house vto be use any how at my absent.I came over to Kansas for a missionary work, so i hope you will promise me to take very good care of the house. So get back to me on how you could take care of my house or perhaps experience you have in renting home. Hope you are okay with the price of $600 with hydro, heat laundry facilities, air condition and so on. I am looking forward to hear from you soon, please email me on how to get the house for rent, once again the house is located at 60 S Manheim Blvd, New Paltz, 12561.
RENT APPLICATION FORM 1)Your Full Name : 2)Your Full Address & Phone Number : 3)How old are you? 4)Are you married? 5)How many people will be living in the house? 6)Do you have a pet? 7)Do you have a car? 8)Occupation?
Looking forward to hear from you with all this details so that i can have it in my file in case of issuing the receipt for you and contacting you.Await your urgent reply so that we can discuss on how to get the document and the key to you, we do not see yet and only putting everything into Gods hand,so please do not let me down in this my property and God bless you more as you do this. Please i want you to check the house at the address and let me know if you would like it, the house is locked and i have the keys.Thanks.
Kinda weird huh? Craiglist warns us about keeping away from renters/sellers who cannot meet with you

Re: Is this house rental to good to be true?
Hmmm I thought it sounded "too good" and the pix are nice - but its listed on Zillow.com, here's a link - they say 4 brs, and I wonder if they could just sell it out from underneath a tenant, probably right?

Re: Is this house rental to good to be true?
You'd have to see it in person. I think the front of the house looks different in all the pics!!! But that could just be me being cynical! Also take into consideration utilities and yard up keep, snow removal...I'm sure they aren't included in the price. Also, if it is heated by gas....that is a HUGE bill, especially with New Paltz winter.

Good detective work checking out zillow!!! They just updated the listing by dropping the price, so more than likely they will rent it our for cheap then sell it out from the tenants.
ETA: Colette...I LOVE THE AVATAR PIC!!!! Don't Hassel the Hoff!!!

I'm thinking that if its on the sale block they might only do a month to month rental, not a yearlong lease, if they're really trying to sell? I"m sure they'd answer that over the phone or by email though. Great point about the heat/utilities too, that could cost $$$$ for the winter (its coooooold north of NYC!).

It really does look like 3 different houses. It probably can't hurt to check it out. Though if you google satellite map it there's nothing there...

Re: Is this house rental to good to be true?
Rent is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper upstate. We rented a huge 2 bedroom apartment in a complex in Oneonta and paid like $900 for everything...The only problem is that while rent may be cheaper, the wages usually are too. For some, that $600 might be hard to come up with depending on what line of work you're in. The job market upstate is very different from downstate.

Missionary work in Kansas? Seriously? I don't want to sound mean, but by his grammar, it gives me the vibe of someone overseas, like in those emails you get from "the president of Kenya" or something. JMO

Re: Is this house rental to good to be true? UPDATE..I think its a scam..
OMG staaaaaaay awaaaaaay sweetie, he obviously just posted the pix of a house for sale and is trying to get a deposit in advance... OR you could have some fun and email back to him:
Dear Sir,
I am markson Kamara the only son of late former Director of finance, Chief Vincent R. Kamara of Sierra-Leone diamond and mining corporation. I must confess my agitation is real, and my words are my bond in this proposal. My late father diverted this fund acquired from the over influencing of price of sales/purchasing of raw materials., now he deposited the money with a BANK IN ABIDJAN BY FIXED DEPOSIT FORM, where I am residing under political asylum with my younger sister Juliet who is 17 years old. Now the war in my country is overwith the help of ECOMOG soldiers, the present government of Sierra Leone has revoked the passport of all officers who served under the former regime and now ask countries to expel such person at the same time, freeze their account and confiscate their assets, it is on this note that I am contacting you, all I needed from you is to furnish me with your bank particulars:
1) Bank name 2) Account name 3) Account number 4) Bank address, telephone and fax numbers to enable me transfer this money in your private bank account, the said amount is tweenty Six Million United States Dollars (US$26.000.000.00).
I am compensating you with 20% of the total money amount, now all my hope is banked on you and I really want to invest this money in your country, where there is stability of Government, political and economic welfare. Honestly I want you to believe that this transaction is real and never a joke. My late father Chief Kamara gave me the photocopy of the deposit certificate issued to him by the BANK IN ABIDJAN on the date of deposit, and he called me closer to his bed side before his call to glory (R.I.P) that I should pray to God first, before contacting any foreigner and he warned me strictly not to deal with a greedy and evil minded people since this is the only legacy we are inheriting from him.
Please, for you to be clarified because, I do not expose myself to anybody I see, I believe that you are able to keep this transaction secret for me because this money is the hope of my life, it is important. Please contact me immediately after you must have gone through my message, and feel free to make it urgent. That is the reason why I offered you 20 % of the total amount, and in case of any other necessary expenses you might incure during this transaction including your telephone calls.
N.B: Try and negotiate for me some profitable blue chip investment opportunities which is risk free that I can invest with this money when it is transferred to your account, and you will be our guardian, personally I am interested in estate management and hotel business, please advise me. Contact me immediately you receive this message for more explanation. And promise me and Juliet my younger sister to be a father considering our situation and not to betray us please.
Thanks and God bless
Best regards

Re: Is this house rental to good to be true? UPDATE..I think its a scam..
Other than the fact that it sounds...shall I say scamish......
I totally agree with the "Kenyan Lottery" winning scam, and also...if you copied and pasted his response to you...he said that it includes, HYDRO...that is a European term. I work for a UK based company and they say it all the time.
When DH and I were looking for homes in North Carolina on Craigslist, we found too good to be true places with similar responses. We asked my Uncle to see what he could find out (he ilves in N.C.), and he found out that the houses existed but were in shambles...nothing like the pics or they were for sale/limitied rental because they were almost in bank foreclosure.
