wording on invites

I was just wondering to those of you who have already done the invitations, what is your wording on it? I'm just looking for some ideas other than what is offered to me. I've seen a lot that are very boring. I want mine to kinda stand out a little. Not that it needs to be flashy or anything.

Oh yeah, and we're doing this wedding ourselves, so I'm not sure whether I want either of our parents' names listed. Maybe.

Re: wording on invites

We're paying for the wedding ourselves with help from FBIL. This is the wording we used:

Jane Doe
AND
John Doe

INVITE YOU TO SHARE
IN THE CELEBRATION OF THEIR MARRIAGE
AND THE JOINING OF THEIR FAMILIES
Saturday, the Eighth of November
Two Thousand and Eight
AT THREE O’ CLOCK IN THE AFTERNOON
THE PLACE
CITY, NY

Re: wording on invites

If you want to include their names but not make it seem like they paid (touchy, right?!) how about:

Brides Name
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. XX
and
Grooms Name
son of Mr. and Mrs. YY

invite you to share in a
celebration of love
as we are joined in marriage

july 21, 2007
3 0'clock
st. mary's church

Or I have seen the bride's and groom's names quite large/raised and then they don't have to be part of the wording,

Please join us...
and then you can either leave your parents out or not.

I like that, thanks for the advice. I really don't want it to say anything like "Mr and Mrs. X invite you.. blah, blah, blah" since it's not really them who are hosting the wedding. But i still feel that it would be nice to have their names on their, since we ARE a really close family. So I appreciate your help on that.

Invite you to celebrate their marriage
On Friday, October 31, 2008

This is probably down to personal preference, but my stationer recommended that nothing go in between the bride and grooms name except "and" or "to" depending on the overall wording. It makes your names stand out more as a pair if they are separated from any other text.
