Kinda a Strange Question - UPDATE AT BOTTOM
but what type of menu would go with this look (hope it posts)? I'm thinking upscale bbq? If you agree, list foods that could be served at an upscae bbq (stations and hors d'oerves, desserts, and drinks). If you disagree, please tell me what types of things you would serve instead.

Re: Kinda a Strange Question
I don't know if I'd call it a BBQ but I think stations such as salad, carving station, pasta station, and maybe 2 trays of fish. Maybe a raw bar and passing hors d'voeuvres.
You could also do a clambake which is awesome!
FH and I have done catering for years and backyard weddings are awesome!

Re: Kinda a Strange Question
Food - bbq pork/beef/chicken, cornbread (not sweet cornbread) & rolls, beans, cole slaw, potato salad, devilled eggs (a must!), corn on the cob and sweet iced tea and or a clam-bake style reception with , potatoes, clams/mussles, shrimp, scallops and Chicken dishes. check out this reciepe
Favors BBQ sauce with personalized labels cornbread kit or personalized aprons & a BBQ set (tongs/fork/spatula) for the attendants' gifts.
Cake
or cupcakes is a GREAT idea

Re: Kinda a Strange Question
"upscale" BBQ would include skewers or "shishkebab" with shrimp, prime grade beef cubes, scallops, chicken, skewered with pepper onions, etc.
Also, smoked ribs, buttered and seasoned corn (done on the grill), along with a wide variety of sides:
beans (baked or grilled) pasta salad(s) potato salad(s) green salad(s) cole slaw fresh baked cornbread
and then the staple items can be in there as well, kosher dogs, burgers, and beef, chicken and salmon fillets, with fish, chicken and beef well-marinated.
I'm getting HUNGRY!!!!

Re: Kinda a Strange Question
You could do gourmet sandwiches, tea sandwiches, specialty potato chips, salads, etc.
Do a search on Martha Stewart's website. There is probably a list of things and recipes for picnics and the like.

Seafood? It seems summery to me, but something a little more formal than BBQ.

We cant have seafood bc we're (we meaning his family is) kosher. It seems so perfect to have a clambake though with that design

Re: Kinda a Strange Question - UPDATE AT BOTTOM
Any menu ideas for a new england picnic type feel? Must be kosher (no dairy, no pork, no seafood). Thanks!

Re: Kinda a Strange Question - UPDATE AT BOTTOM
I'm totally confused wouldn't you want to pick the menu/style first then design a 'look' around it? Also if seafood's out I'd stay away from the New England type menu as pp's have said.
Maybe get rid of the lanterns, use some other type of lighting, something casual but less "new englandy"?
