Afternoon vs. Evening - Westbury Manor
Hello! I just got engaged on 08.08.08, and in the very early stages of my planning. We really love the Westbury Manor and thinking of May 2010. We are leaning towards an afternoon wedding, and wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts of an afternoon vs. evening. Will an afternoon be different than an evening? Will is still have the same feeling or will it be more laid back? The main problem is that they do not do cermonies for evening weddings? I love the grounds, so I feel it will be perfect for an afternnon weddding. It will be all over at 6 pm - seems so early, maybe I will do an after party?
Any reviews of a Sat afternoon vs. evening? Any reviews of the Westbury Manor?
Thank you!

Re: Afternoon vs. Evening - Westbury Manor
WM is beautiful! I liked it there but the room that i liked (Manor Room) required me to guarantee a # of people more than i was willing to.
I myself am having an afternoon wedding just because the price was so much better than a Sat night... even though i have to get up extra early, i think it will be nice to have my CH hour during the day outside in the garden (im getting married at Fox Hollow though).
Some ladies that get married in the daytime throw after-parties, so you can do that if you want..
good luck!
ETA: congrats and welcome :)

Re: Afternoon vs. Evening - Westbury Manor
i just booked with them for 2010 in april! :) i love Westbury Manor... :) I am having a friday evening wedding. Wether you have an afternoon wedding or an evening wedding is up to you! i know that in order to enjoy the gardens you would need the day time but i visited the westbury manor in the evening and they have lights in the gardens and it looks pretty in the evening too it is totally up to you i prefer an evening wedding for convenience and of course it's better for the guest :) also i'm spanish so spanish people love to party late...whatever you decision might be if you end up choosing westbury manor you will have a wonderful wedding you'll see!! it also depends on your budget! take care and congratulations!
:)
PS: i think they do do evening ceremonies i visited the westbury manor in the evening last friday at about 7 or so and there was a wedding ceremony going on if i were you i will double check with them..

Re: Afternoon vs. Evening - Westbury Manor
FSIL had a Saturday afternoon wedding at Westbury Manor and it was great, everyone had an amazing time and partied like it was an evening wedding, you would have never known that it was an afternoon wedding the way the party was going. Also the food was great!!!!!

Re: Afternoon vs. Evening - Westbury Manor
think an afternoon wedding is a great idea. My brothers best friend recently got married in the afternoon and they had an after party after. They had alot of fun and everyone was able to stay the whole party without worrying about work or anything the next day.

Congrats and Welcome!!
I love WM. An afternoon wedding there will be elegant and beautiful. We have several WM brides here on the 2010 board who are getting married all days and hours.
But your afternoon wedding will be beautiful if you go that route.

Re: Afternoon vs. Evening - Westbury Manor
Westbury Manor is beautiful. I am having a Saturday evening wedding there. I was there both during the day and at night and both times, the grounds looked gorgeous. It's a personal preference as to whether you want afternoon or evening. Personally, I prefer evening so I don't have to get up so early in the morning.
I would double check about not having a ceremony for an evening wedding. I am getting married at a Church, but they had mentioned the possibility of a ceremony.

Re: Afternoon vs. Evening - Westbury Manor
Congrats! You got engaged on my birthday
We had a Sunday afternoon wedding for a number of reasons -- DH was a little worried that people wouldn't drink or party but they definitely did, and we went back to the OOT hotel afterwards for an informal afterparty. We were there for 5 hours before my parents forced us to leave and go to our hotel! Time flew by but it was soooo much fun hanging out with our friends, drinking cans of beer, and just kicking back. we have great pictures and videos and it gave us so much more time to spend with our guests (many OOT) especially since we left for our honeymoon the next morning. DH has told me a million times that the afternoon wedding was the best thing we could have done. Others choose to have a morning after brunch, but we didnt have time and I liked that once we left it was for good -- and then off to the airport!
also, it let people enjoy the NRCs beautiful grounds during the daytime, and gave our close OOTers (2ish hour drive) time to get home at a reasonable hour without leaving super early.

Re: Afternoon vs. Evening - Westbury Manor
ok i just booked WM also for Valentines day 2010 and im pretty sure they do do evening ceremonies because when I went to look at the manor room set up it was at night and the ceremony had just ended i thought. Also I love the way the grounds look all lit up at night that is just me though. i think you should pop in at different times and see which you like the most. when you see the way it is set up that you want you will know

Re: Afternoon vs. Evening - Westbury Manor
I'm having an afternoon wedding. I think it will be the same "feel" as an evening wedding. Plus there are so many benefits: for one the price is better. Also you can continue on much later and have an after party.
Also, the WM grounds outside are so beautiful- I feel like you can really enjoy them on a May afternoon.

Re: Afternoon vs. Evening - Westbury Manor
Check out the Bride's Reviews section. There are a LOT of WM brides and many of them were married in the afternoon. Here is a link to one bride that got married in June. Think the grounds are absolutely gorgeous

Re: Afternoon vs. Evening - Westbury Manor
I was just there on Tuesday, I LOVE the gardens, Natasha (BM)was very nice. They did mention that they do not do the cermony on a Sat. if I remember correctly. They however, will do it on a Friday night, which would start late around 8pm. FH didn't like the idea that it was so late, but I think that it's great, it gives your guest a little more time to get there, especially if they have to work that day.
But like most everyone said it's totally your preference.
GOOD LUCK!!!!

I just got married there on a Saturday afternoon--It was amazing. Everyone was dancing and drinking and having a great time. The grounds were also beautiful during the day and we could not have asked for more perfect weather. HTH

I've been to a few afternoon weddings and it seemed that once everyone was in and having a good time, it doesnt matter what time of day it is!
