I dont know what to do

I have been going to my hair dresser ever since the 8th grade. She is awesome and I completely trust her with my hair for the wedding.
Everytime I see her she is always talking about styles she can do for me for the wedding and it all sounds exactly what I want.
The issue is she doesnt travel since she is the owner of her salon and my make up artist is coming to my house. So we would have to shuttle girls in two shifts between my house and the hair salon(while girls are getting their hair done the others are getting makeup and then they switch) My hair dresser is all the way out in Bayville and I'm trying to keep my wedding day as stress-free as possible. Plus I'm nervous about traffic on a friday afternoon and running behind with everything. My makeup artist gave me some people that she knows that does great hair and that will come to my house but I feel so bad not using my hair dresser..........................What should I do?

Re: I dont know what to do

sounds like going to the salon would be a bit of a hassle, i personally wouldn't do it. You said its not close by and you would have to shuttle girls in shifts. I would also be worried about traffic, i had an issue for my e-party. I had to go to the city to get hair and make up done get back to queens after and then go to LI for the e-party. I happened to be done at the time cabs change shifts and not one would take me, one finally stopped after a long time and said he can take me if its on the way to him bringing the cab back, it wasnt but i seriously had to beg him and explained my whole situation. You just never know whats going to happen

for wedding day i had hair and make up come to me and it was so nice to not rush out to get it done, then to rush back home. I got to sit back and relax the morning of in my own home all comfortable.

Re: I dont know what to do

Thats exactly what I want to do...I want to spend the morning with my girls getting ready and just being able to relax (if I can) and get ready at a nice pace...not running around

Re: I dont know what to do

You seem kinda close to your hair dresser. I would talk to her about it, and kinda tell her your concerns. That way if you do decide to go with somebody else, at least you told her first and no feelings will be hurt. On the other hand, perhaps she'll figure out a way to get to you (if she feels that it's important enough for her to be the one doing it). That's just my opinion. But I agree with Espo22. I wanna be as relaxed as possible the morning of my wedding, so I wouldn't want to be relying on traffic or anything really.

Re: I dont know what to do

It sounds like its gonna be a PITA for you. I used my regular hair girl for my wedding day but it was easy for me because she is a few blocks from my house so I went to her early in the AM with my girls and had everything done HOURS before the wedding so I was still able to relax at the RH.Why dont you talk to her and try to get her to travel to you. Even if you have to pay for her travel. Explain to her that you wont be able to use her if she cant come to you. Maybe she'll make an exception.

Re: I dont know what to do

i would explain to your hairdresser you want someone who can some to your home to do your hair as well as your bridesmaids. maybe she will change her mind and take off for a few hours. and tell her unfortunately this is the only way you can use her, although you would LOVE to. maybe she will budge??
if not, i wouldnt sacrifice what you want just to use her. there are tons of people who are great that are willing to travel to you home. i think it takes a lot of stress of you the day of.

Re: I dont know what to do

for someone that is a long time client, you would think that she could be more flexible with you. for your own sanity i would look into other options of stylists that can come to your house. the idea of going back and forth is too much!

Be honest with her, let her know you just can't and might have to go with plan B...you never know this may just get her to change her mind.

If they do make up in the salon, the won't let someone come in from the outside without giving them a cut of the profit, and i'm sure your makeup artist wont like that....just a thought!

Re: I dont know what to do

I was in the same situation. Wanted my long time hair dresser to do my hair/makeup. Only problem was the location and the Salon (she is not the owner) wanted a ridiculous amount of money to let the girls come to me.

She told me to go somewhere else becuase she was embarassed at what the owners wanted to charge. She completely understood why it was more conveinent to have someone come to me and was not upset or offended at all.

Why dont you just go to her to get your hair done and have someone else come to the house to do the rest of the girls?

Re: I dont know what to do

I personally wouldn't do it...I was getting stressed just reading your post LOL...I would talk to your hairdresser and tell her your concerns. Ask her what she thinks...tell her it really means so much to you for her to do your hair, but that it is way too stressful (and time-consuming) to shuttle everyone back and forth on the day of your wedding, and will she reconsider coming to you? If she won't, then I would tell her that you're very sorry, but that you really don't know what else to do in your situation except to use someone that will be able to travel to you on your wedding day...then at least you know for sure that you really tried to have her do your hair.
There are so many great hairstylists on here and you will definitely find one you like!!! GL!!!!

Re: I dont know what to do

Maybe you can explain to her that of course you prefer her to do your hair but it will just be too stressful for you to travel before the wedding. Maybe when she sees that you are not going to bend on this, she will reconsider coming to your house

Re: I dont know what to do

I agree that asking the makeup girl to go to the salon would make your life a whole lot easier. If your hairdresser has been with you that long and you two are really that close you should ask her to let the makeup girl just go to the salon and not take any money from her. She is the owner right? Its not like your a new client that she doesn't know that well.

just try explaining how much you want her to be the one to do your hair for your wedding, but you just can't make it to her salon that day.... ya never know, she might be open to the idea good luck!

Re: I dont know what to do

If she's been doing your hair for that long she must know you well. Maybe she can make it out to you early, before her salon even opens? Or maybe she has an assistant or another hair dresser she works with that can either take over for her at the salon or come to you for your hair?

Re: I dont know what to do

I think bottom line is that if she truly thinks of you as a loyal customer, and friend if she's known you that long, then she should go out of her way to accommodate you. Even if it means just letting the makeup girl come do her work in the salon without charging her.

agree.

Also, perhaps your hair dresser would allow your MU person to come to the salon?? That might be a way to fix this whole thing.

Re: I dont know what to do

even if MU person comes to the salon not sure if that would fix other problems. What stuck out to me more was that you said it wasnt that close so you do have to travel a bit. Then you said you'd have to get the girls there in shifts. My biggest concern would be the traffic. If it takes time to get there and back then thats time you are wasting traveling when you can do other things.

ALSO another thing not mentioned yet , but if its important for you to have getting ready pictures the day of, you would also have to tell your photographer to go there. Then the photographer would have to go to the salon then back to your house while you get dressed and then go to the church after. If you dont care about having getting ready pics then thats different.

I think its better if you can convince her to go to you the day of rather than the other way around. Going to her solves just 1 problem but the biggest problem of the travel time and have to rush is my concern. It might take longer to do someones hair, and if youre behind schedule at the salon then hit traffic you'll be behind schedule getting back home and dressed. And you will get stressed out if youre sitting in traffic trying to get back home, and i dont think you want to get stressed like that right before your ceremony

If your hair dresser is recommending someone then I would trust them. Schedule a hair trial with the one she most highly recommends and have your hairdresser describe what you two discussed.

Re: I dont know what to do

I am in the SAME EXACT situation. I am going to speak with her first, and then go with whoever will come to the hotel. I will just say I am staying at the hotel the night before and it is 5 minutes from where the ceremony will be so it'd be silly to travel.

jennarose023,

yep that could be a factor as well, but we don't know that. I'm sure Kristentinnelly would check into it though if she was considering it as her option!
