We used our credit card for most everything. We brought travelers checks and changed them into polynesian francs at the money exchange at the airport when we got there. We brought $100 per day for snacks, sodas, incidentals, small souveniers etc. and it was more than enough. We charged our excursions on our credit card too. We bought baked goods, chocolate croissants in Moorea that were heavenly! Lots of cheese and fresh bread too.

We charged mostly everything. We opened up a captial one card because they do not have fee for using it in a foreign country and then they have a better exchange rate when you pay the bill. We might over brought about $500 in cash and I don't think we used much of it at all. 95% of the things you can charge.

Went in 07 and charged everything.

Good point about opening a Capitol One card...I didn't have one and we were charged a lot of foreign exchange fees.

But much easier than bringing cash...just maybe bring a few hundred dollars with you so you have some cash on you...

It seemed like the average in the packages at the nicer resorts including everything (air to-from tahiti, intra island, all the transfers, taxes and insurance) was around $1,000 per day. It varied some because some resorts included breakfast or a free night or something. We spent $10,000 but it can be done for less. We looked at some packages staying longer in Moorea than Bora Bora and they were less $. I think it depends on the hotels you want.
