Re: Hawaiian Honeymoon Question ...

I heard the rule is $1000/day with air, food, hotel, etc.
I started pricing a 10 day trip (3 islands) and it looks to be just under $10,000

Re: Hawaiian Honeymoon Question ...

It depends on where you are staying too. If you stay in a condo it is much less than a hotel. That's what DH and I are doing when we go back....loved Hawaii and can't wait to go back!!! We just got back about two weeks ago and we stayed in the Hyatt at all three islands (Oahu, Maui and Kauai). There is some sort of special deal going on where if you stay in Hawaii for more than 5 days on at least two different islands at the Hyatt, you get their free breakfast buffet and a discount on the rooms. We also registered for the Hyatt passport program so that we could earn points towards free nights in the future. At hotels in general we found out that the view is what determines how much you pay for the room...for ex, a mountain-view room is a lot less than an oceanview room....we booked mountain-view rooms to save a lot of $$$. Overall for ten days we spent about $8000. including our dinners, lunches, and activities.
If you call a travel agent and give them your budget, they will work with you and make it work....we used Christina at Ship to Shore and she was awesome (631. 754.1802).

Re: Hawaiian Honeymoon Question ...

it's very seasonal...if you look at travelocity there are plenty of packages for a lot less in the fall.
You will spend on food, but I think you could do it for airfare plus 400-500 a day, if you spend wisely.

Re: Hawaiian Honeymoon Question ...

We did 13 nights on 3 islands for about $6500 for hotel, airfare, and car rental every day - got this through the famous Travel Tom. Add about $150 per day for snacks, dinner, gas, and activities, on average. Could be much less - one day we spent on the beach and in the pool, and had Pizza Hut for dinner and spent like $30 total all day. But then there was the day we took a snorkel cruise to Molokini and that alone was $160 for the two of us. So it depends on how you spend your days.

So if it was $6500 for our package, plus $150 average per day for 13 days, that's just about $9000 for two weeks. We stayed at beautiful resorts, not condos. If we'd stayed at condos, that would have been at least $100 cheaper per day.

The way we figured it, it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and worth whatever we could afford to spend! It was more of a priority than things that even went into our wedding, and we're glad we did that.

Re: Hawaiian Honeymoon Question ...

We took a Hawaiian cruise through NCL. It is definitely the way to go. We didn't have to take any puddle hopper planes. We visited Ouahu, Maui, Kona, Hilo, and Kuaui. Most of the food on the boat was included. (They have premium restaurants that they charge you for but you don't have to go to them) You can do excursions on each island. They pick you up right at the dock and bring you back with plenty of time. I loved it. We saw so much of Hawaii. You shoujld look into it.

Re: Hawaiian Honeymoon Question ...

a few years ago dh (then just bf lol) went to hawaii on a tour with Cosmos tours. It was awesome! we saw 4 islands, they take care of all your accomodations and inter island flights and transfers and you go on a tour of each island when you arrive. granted, you're with a bunch of other people(older people too) but if you dont mind that and want to see a lot of things this was pretty cost effective not to mention convenient. Also you stay in 3 star hotels, not 5 star. but the hotels they chose were very nice, we had no complaints.

cost wise, i just went on their website and the price for a 15 day 4 island tour without airfare to get to hawaii is about $2400pp. that includes interisland air, transportation, hotel. does not include food or excursions. add on airfare from nyc which is about 900pp. for a total without food or excursions of $7000.
